Once on dry land, the famous Purbeck Line steam railway is reached by a short stroll along the promenade and up the main street. Children and adults alike enjoy travelling the old fashioned way to the picturesque village of Corfe, with its impressive ruined castle. It was here that King Edward the Martyr was murdered in 978 AD, and the castle was later besieged by Oliver Cromwell in 1646 and defended by Lady Banks in her husband's absence.
On production of a valid ticket, there will be a discount for the train fare to Corfe castle. There is an entrance fee if you wish to visit the castle. (You'll gain discounted entry if you produce a valid boat ticket.)
Corfe is one of Dorset's prettiest villages, so you may want to make time to explore the village, and perhaps have a bite to eat in one of the inns around the square. This is a popular trip, and the boat is usually buzzing with conversation as we sail homeward!
